  • Hi Marcus! What are you studying?

Bachelor of Music, Classical Performance on Cello

  • Why did you choose to live at Iglu?

It was an affordable, convenient option which would allow me to focus on studying as opposed to managing home admin, or spend on furnishing. Offered good access to amenities both external and internal.

  • What do you like about living at Iglu?

Iglu was a convenient, comfortable affordable option which offered not only good location in access to necessities and university but also its own community of both student and staff alike.

  • How did the Iglu Regional Scholarship help you?

It meant I was able to worry less about necessities and rent, and could spend most of my attention and focus on my studies which is the main reason I’m in Melbourne to begin with.

  • What is your favourite thing about living at Iglu?

The community which is always there and supportive. I really value the ability to be around and meet so many people from different walks of life and backgrounds, and who may share some common interests, yet may also lead me to different interests. Largely this is started in the events, and then furthered by the facilities provided allowing residents to interact with each other. However, I’m also glad that if I need some time to myself, or simply need to focus on practice or study, I’m able to do so and not feel pressured in anyway to participate in these activities. That flexibility means that I can enjoy my free time and study time knowing that there is no pressure at all from my residence.

  • What would you say to students considering living at Iglu?

The convenience and comfort was my key reason for living at Iglu. Not needing to buy furniture, worry about bills, location, inspections, wifi and many other necessary amenities and devote my attention to study and work is something I value highly both for the sake of productivity and enjoyment of university life.

  • And finally, what words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents?

Get amongst the events, especially when everyone is still new to the building, find some people you’ll want to be around, and enjoy as much of the university experience as you can!
